Irish Music Studies

Irish traditional music, song and dance are an integral part of Irish cultural life and identity. This programme provides an interdisciplinary introduction to the ways in which traditional Irish music, song and dance have contributed to the creation of identity amongst Irish communities on the island of Ireland and beyond. A practical workshop element in sean-nós singing and dancing, along with insights from literature, television and film enhances the learning experience.

Participants will gain an understanding of the ways in which Irish performers have been actively involved in imagining and re-imagining Ireland from the eighteenth century through to the present.
