Course overview
The Discipline of Speech & Language Therapy aims to stimulate, conduct and disseminate high quality research in language, communication, eating/drinking/swallowing, and education which will have a significant impact on speech and language therapy practice and education. At this point we can offer a PhD in Language Science which is open to graduates with clinical and non-clinical degrees. For applicants who are not qualified speech and language therapists, this degree does not provide a qualification in speech and language therapy. To pursue this degree, candidates should have an honours degree and should discuss this matter with the Head of Discipline.

Entry requirements
Candidates should have an honours degree award (at least second class honours), or equivalent international qualification, in Speech and Language Therapy. MPhil candidates who do not meet these criteria may be permitted to take the qualifying examination for the MPhil programme, if recommended by the Head of Discipline or Programme Board, duly approved by College. A short-listing procedure will be based on the application; a discretionary interview may be scheduled.

Speech and Language Therapy , School of Health Sciences and Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge have started an exciting collaboration on establishing developmental norms for native speakers of Irish with a final aim to construct language assessment tools in Irish. Being the first collaborative work of this kind in the Republic of Ireland, it attracted funding from An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG) who provided the University with two research fellowships for students undertaking a PhD in Language Sciences. Ms. Sarah Ann-Muckley and Mr. Ciarán Lenoach have commenced their PhD studies on 1 st October under supervision of Dr. Stanislava Antonijević and Dr. Conchúr Ó Giollagáin.
